Remembering the Black Day of Jan. 22, 1973; Championing a Culture of Life

Cathi Herrod, president of the Center for Arizona Policy:

Today we observe one of the most tragic days in our nation’s history – the day the United States Supreme Court ruled that taking the life of a preborn child at any stage of pregnancy for any reason was legal. Yet it is a day filled with hope for the days ahead.

Today, I urge you to redouble your efforts to protect the lives of preborn children and their mothers and fathers.

Forty-three years ago few would have anticipated a pro-life movement that is stronger than ever with the country daily witnessing an increasingly pro-life majority. That the abortion rate would be dropping, not increasing.

Some key thoughts to encourage you that we are making a difference…

  • The pro-life movement is just as concerned about the woman walking into an abortion clinic as we are about her preborn child. Abortion not only stops a beating heart, it hurts women. Abortion breaks a woman’s heart. We all know a woman wounded by abortion who has suffered greatly – either physically or emotionally – from her abortion. Men are coming forward in increasing numbers who regret having supported or coerced a woman into having an abortion. These truths help persuade women to choose life, not abortion.
  • Ultrasound technology continues to show the humanity of the preborn child. The vivid pictures of babies as early as nine or ten weeks in the womb with a beating heart and clearly distinguishable human features leave no doubt – that’s a life worthy of protection.
  • The atrocities – the dangerous and deadly practices – being performed daily by Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics continue to be exposed. No longer can the American public act as though these so-called women’s health services are for the common good. No, quite the opposite.
  • In the last three years, more states have passed more laws protecting preborn children and their mothers than at any other time in the last 43 years. Almost all of the Republican candidates for president are pro-life. More and more candidates for office proudly proclaim their pro-life views, including the most recent and current Arizona governors.

To keep making a difference, I offer you these action steps…

  • Pray for an end to abortion. Pray for committed pro-life individuals to be elected to office, especially as President of the United States. Pray for the U.S. Supreme Court as they rule on the Texas abortion law later this year.
  • Financially support and volunteer at a pregnancy resource center. These pro-life heroes are on the front lines daily reaching abortion-minded women with life-saving alternatives.
  • Financially support and volunteer for a candidate of your choosing who will protect and defend life from its very beginning to its natural end.
  • Always, always be ready to be winsome and persuasive as you present the truth with those who do not hold a pro-life view. Know the facts about how abortion hurts women and fetal development from the moment of conception.

Today we mourn the havoc wreaked on preborn children, men, and women. Yet today we also keep our hope fixed on a new day in America when all life is protected from its very beginning to its natural end.

House Pulls Plug on Funding of Scandal-plagued Planned Parenthood

IMG_0996Today the United States House of Representatives voted to defund Planned Parenthood. The bill now goes to the desk of President Obama, a secular humanist and an ally of PP who will veto the bill. But he and his values-challenged political party will own that veto.

There’s no way this corrupt organization deserves a nickel of taxpayer funding. Alliance Defending Freedom is suing PP for allegedly defrauding the government. Furthermore, PP is in court defending itself from charges of cashing in abortion profits while refusing to report individuals for raping under-age girls.

ADF attorney Kellie Fiedorek said, “The House has voted the will of the majority of Americans with this legislation, which makes Planned Parenthood ineligible to receive federal tax dollars and redirects those funds to support the thousands of better low-cost healthcare options for women and families. This historic vote recognizes the many issues of a scandal-plagued organization with a long track record of abusive and potentially fraudulent billing practices, caught in authenticated undercover videos trafficking aborted babies’ body parts, and that has repeatedly failed to report the sexual abuse of girls.

Obama has collected $1 million from Planned Parenthood in campaign contributions in the 2012 election cycle, making him the abortion giant’s top cash recipient. Planned Parenthood officials have visited the White House 151 times in the last six years of the Obama presidency. What’s more, Planned Parenthood helped shape Obamacare, which is a none-too-thinly-veiled money-making scheme for Planned Parenthood.

Oh yeah, the fix is in.

A Response to Planned Parenthood’s Anger Gram

Here’s the message posted on the Planned Parenthood website:

To those who go to unimaginable extremes to close our doors:

We deplore your violence. We reject your threats. We fight your legislation to limit reproductive rights and health care in every corner of our country.

We believe your actions and words hurt women — whether by making it impossible to seek health care or by creating a climate of disrespect and hostility that fosters extremist violence.

We demand an end to the incendiary rhetoric from anti-abortion activists and lawmakers that demonizes Planned Parenthood doctors and patients. The smear campaign and false accusations that motivated the attack in Colorado Springs must stop.

We aren’t going anywhere. Planned Parenthood has been here for nearly 100 years, and we will keep being here as long as women, men, and young people need health care with dignity.

To those who go to shocking extremes to close our doors, know this:

These doors stay open.

Now read The Arizona Conservative’s response to Planned Parenthood:

To those who go to unimaginable extremes to degrade our culture and put profit over life:

We deplore your killing of 330,000 innocent Americans each year. And the maiming and physical and psychological wounding of countless women. And refusing to put health and safety first. And defrauding the government of taxpayer money. And refusing to report the rapes of under-age girls.

We reject your defiance, your questionable practices and your lack of ethics.

We vow to hold you accountable for the degradation of humanity.

We see you hurting women, killing children, looking the other way at rapists, your hypocritical pretense at standing for the women you exploit and your blatant disregard for America’s taxpayers.

We demand an end to your anger and your incendiary, hateful rhetoric, as well as your lies about having done mammograms and your false claim that a “smear campaign and false accusations” caused a mentally deranged madman to go on a shooting spree at Colorado Springs. Your words are defamatory, slanderous and libelous. As well as insulting. Stop pretending to speak for women – whom you exploit.

We are thankful you are in retreat. Many of your clinics are closing down, rather than meet state health regulations (putting women at heightened risk), rather than hire doctors who have admittance at hospitals. You wouldn’t know the word dignity if it stared you right in the face.

Your house of cards is unraveling. Corporations are hiding their associations with you.

Abortion is in decline. You are in retreat. The truth is coming out. You’ve been taking our culture down. And we will not go with you. Your doors will stay open for now, but there are fewer of them.

Peace on earth. Good will to men, women and children.

Vulgar Left Spins its Wheels over Colorado Tragedy

As sure as the sun rises in the East and sets in the West, you can count on the far Left to lie, spin and spread false narratives about news and issues. The tragic murder of three people in Colorado Springs recently is another case in point.

Rob Boston, a blogger for Americans United for Separation of Church and State, spun these ridiculous claims:

In the wake of Friday’s horrific shootings at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, we’re hearing calls to deescalate the rhetoric around the issue of abortion.

The implication is that both sides are reaching for rhetorical excess. The problem with this claim is that it’s demonstrably untrue.

Pro-choice advocates have argued calmly in favor of reproductive choice for years.  They’ve marshalled facts and figures. They have pointed out that Planned Parenthood provides an array of services to men and women, many of whom are low income. They’ve challenged anti-choice activists to explain how these services would be provided if Planned Parenthood were defunded.

The response from many in the anti-choice community has been nowhere near as reasoned. They have ignored the facts, repeatedly employed the most lurid rhetoric imaginable and lobbed charges that don’t stand up to scrutiny. On the fringe of the movement rest people who advocate and employ violence.

These assertions are laughable and completely false to those of us who have been paying attention to the civility/incivility of the debate. It is disingenuous for the people who claim they have the right to kill the most defenseless among us to act as if they are the more caring crowd and to feign shock and surprise when man exhibits his inhumanity to man. How do people on the Left sleep at night knowing they’ve spent the last day lying and they’re going to spend the following day lying again?

The Colorado murderer, who appeared to be mentally unstable in his court appearance, believes he possesses the moral right to take innocent people’s lives. This is the same belief that abortionists and other leftists demand. His actions followed his beliefs, and his actions are diametrically opposed to and, 180 degrees apart from the views and actions of people who do not believe others should have the legal choice to take a person’s life. Whether it is a pre-born child or an elderly or depressed person.

Every human being’s life is precious. Those of us on the Right condemn murderous acts in all contexts — including abortion and euthanasia. Police authorities in Colorado said they do not yet know the shooter’s motives. For anyone to declare knowledge of motive now is irresponsible and dishonest.

If abortion activists really believe that toxic rhetoric incites violence, they should cease their own toxic rhetoric and end the false accusations against pro-life people. We will show you some of their hateful, vile, vulgar, disgusting remarks below, in a moment.

The pro-life movement champions life for all.  The Left has given America a culture of death which does not value human life. The Colorado shooter’s criminal acts contradict the actions and philosophy of a peaceful movement of millions of pro-life Americans.

Public policy regarding the protection of human life must be discussed with conviction and civility. Boston and his fellow leftists should not politicize and exploit a tragedy that has torn apart the lives of the victims’ families. AU and others should not attempt to capitalize on the murderous acts of one deranged person for political gain. This is a time to come alongside the families of those who tragically lost their lives. This is also yet another time to consider how our nation can stop mentally unstable people from going on killing rampages.

Planned Parenthood is not an innocent victim. The killer’s horrendous acts do not exonerate an organization under multiple state and federal investigations with a years-long, nationwide pattern of waste, abuse, and potentially fraudulent behavior.

This is also a time to recognize true heroism, the true grit of Officer Garrett Swasey, killed that day. He risked his life to save others. That’s courage, when one lays down his life for his fellow man.

Okay, now let’s get to the “reasoned” pro-choice Left, as Boston alleges:

On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision that companies with religious objections may opt out of covering contraceptives for women, the Associated Press reported. The news did not sit well with pro-abortion liberals who decried the ruling. Some, Twitchy said, were so angry they called for burning down Hobby Lobby in violent, profane tweets.

“[L]iterally burn hobby lobby (sic) to the ground,” one pro-abortion liberal screamed on Twitter.

“I hope all your stores burn to the ground,” another person said.

“#HobbyLobby are scum of the earth. Burn every single one down, build a homeless shelter there instead,” a third person said.

“Is Hobby Lobby now authorized to sterilize these women? What the hell are they talking about?” one person asked. The answer, of course, is no, Hobby Lobby is not allowed to sterilize women, but “closely held” corporations like Hobby Lobby are not required to pay for contraception if they have deeply-held religious views against it. According to the AP, the ruling only applies to those companies controlled by just a few people where there is basically no difference between the company and its owners.

And this over-the-top anger didn’t start with the Hobby Lobby decision. No, it has been prevalent for a long, long time.

Read this from the Democrat Underground — if you can stomach it:

The f—– up part is that these f—— “pro-life” f—- claim the moral high ground, saying they are part of the “culture of life”. Well I don’t see a cultures of life, I see a culture of suffering and death. These people aren’t even fit to lick week old dog s— off of my f—— boots.

The Left has a major problem with anger, incivility and vulgarity. The people who value each and every individual human life are the adults in the room. The bitter, angry Left keeps spinning … and spinning its wheels.

Peace on earth and good will toward men.

New Book Exposes Left-Stream Media’s Folly over HB1062

Less than two years ago, extremists on the far Left fringe and their media lemmings in Arizona and around the nation successfully waged a campaign of fear, deceit and distortion against a state religious freedom bill, HB 1062. They stampeded Gov. Jan Brewer into fearfully vetoing this harmless, but helpful, bill. Virtually every television station in Arizona bought the lies of homosexual activists … hook, line and sinker, and engaged in yellow journalism. Even a Phoenix sportscaster, Mike Jurecki, foolishly shot off his mouth about what the bill would not do, further spreading the Big Lie, the Big Narrative of the Left. We saw again how gullible, how ignorant and misinformed and how horribly misguided the left-stream media really is. And just how easily the left-stream media could be led by extreme leftists, without pretending to be fair or factual.

Outside of The Arizona Conservative, there were few in this state who really stood up to speak the truth to this manufactured “crisis.”

Now Ryan Anderson of The Heritage Foundation has addressed what happened here — in his book “Truth Overruled: The Future of Marriage and Religious Freedom.” He writes the following in Chapter 5: Religious Freedom: A Basic Human Right. We think this is well worth your read:

In February 2014, the State of Arizona considered a minor legislative clarification to its state RFRA, attracting incendiary media coverage. The New York Times editorialized that the Arizona legislation had passed “noxious measures to give businesses and individuals the broad right to deny services to same-sex couples in the name of protecting religious liberty.”

The Times got it wrong. The Arizona bill, an amendment to the stat’s 1999 RFRA protections, never even mentioned same-sex couples. In provided that the RFRA protections would extend to any “state action” and would apply to “any individual, association, partnership, corporation, church, religious assembly or institution or other business organization. In other words, the bill would have protected all citizens and the associations they form from undue burdens by the government on their religious liberty and from private lawsuits that would have the same effect.

Kirsten Powers jumped into the fray with a USA Today column misleadingly titled “Arizona Latest to Attack Gay Rights.” She warned that the law “would result in nothing less than chaos,” even though the federal government has operated under the same rules for twenty years and Arizona had had similar protections since 1999. A bipartisan group of law professors set the record straight in a letter to Governor Jan Brewer:

The bill has been egregiously misrepresented by many of its critics …

We should not punish people for practicing their religion unless we have a very good reason. Arizona has had a RFRA for nearly fifteen years now; the federal government has had one since 1993; and RFRA’s standard was the constitutional standard for the entire country from 1963 to 1990 …

[The proposed law] would amend the Arizona RFRA to address two ambiguities that have been the subject of litigation under other RFRA’s. It would provide that people are covered when state or local government requires them to violate their religion in the conduct of their businesses, and it would provide that people are covered when sued by a private citizen invoking state or local law to demand that they violate their religion.

The rhetoric about giving bigots a license not to serve gays and lesbians was simply nonsensical. Indeed, religious liberty claims in connection with same-sex marriage have never been about turning away certain persons or groups, but about not endorsing certain actions or ceremonies.

But the lies worked, and Governor Brewer, a Republican, vetoed the bill. Among those applying pressure were Arizona’s two Republican senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake, as well as Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney [and State Senator Bob Worsley], showing that both political parties are susceptible to abandoning principle once the media dial up the heat. Or big business. National Football League officials expressed concern about holding the Super Bowl in Arizona, as scheduled, should the religious liberty bill be enacted.

The scholar’s letter flew right over the head of the frightened governor, who vetoed the bill and got the rabid radicals off her back.

Arizona’s Women and Children Caught in the Crosshairs

Governor Doug Ducey just issued a proclamation for “Domestic Violence Awareness Month”:

Hello, this is Governor Doug Ducey.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

This is a serious issue that affects 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men in Arizona.

Every Arizonan has the right to feel safe in his or her own home.

To those in abusive situations – you are not alone. Please reach out to a loved one and ask for help, or call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.

You have my word: the Sate of Arizona will prosecute those who commit domestic violence with the full force of the law.

By working together, we can protect our fellow citizens and get them the support they need. Thank you.

This is a good start, governor, but it ignores a great big elephant in the living room: domestic partner benefits, offered by the City of Phoenix and other misguided secular humanist organizations.

Why do they encourage cohabitation by rewarding it with domestic partner benefits? This fact alone should discourage them from it:

In the U.S. and Canada, cohabiting women are nine times more likely to be killed by their live-in boyfriend than married women by their husband.

Once again, we call on Arizona taxpayers to demand an end to this misguided policy placing women and children at heightened risks of serious harm.

And if that isn’t enough of a risk for children, Equality Arizona — the state’s most radical homosexual pressure group — is demanding legislation to clear the way for homosexual adoption in Arizona:

There are 18,000 children in Arizona’s foster care system, but discrimination and institutional barriers can prevent LGBTQ families from becoming foster and adoptive families and accessing resources. Our campaign, Project Jigsaw is working to connect every child to a loving family.

These leftist pressure groups and their friends in the White House and the left-stream media repeat a narrative that same-sex relationships are automatically “loving.” But that, as usual with the Left, is a false and dishonest narrative.

Because domestic violence among lesbians is extremely high. Just look at the sad saga of Phoenix Mercury lesbian Britney Greiner and her former wife, both arrested for beating up on each other earlier this year. This is not uncommon. It is unsafe and unhealthy for children to be placed in these environments.

And for a great many male homosexuals, they engage in a parade of anonymous sexual exploits and expose children to serious risks. Dawn Stefanowicz grew up in such a dark home environment:

Dawn’s story is not the exception.

Yes, children need loving homes to grow up in — with a married man and woman. If we as a people in Arizona have the will to resist calls for political correctness, children will have a better chance for a happy, peaceful, loving home. That is what we need our governor to stand up and fight for. Because he will be pressured to do the wrong thing. Governor Ducey, do the right thing.
