Sheridan, Arpaio Locked In Tight Race for Maricopa Co. Sheriff
With 100,000 votes still to be counted, Jerry Sheridan maintains a slim lead over Joe Arpaio in the Republican Primary for Maricopa County sheriff. The winner will face off against incumbent Democrat Paul Penzone in November.Sheridan leads with 136,960 votes to Arpaio's 136, 419. That's a difference of just 541 votes.Apaio, now age 87 and long recognized as "America's toughest sheriff," served four terms as the county's sheriff until Penzone defeated him four years ago.Election officials are not certain when the vote counting will conclude.
