Arizona Police Association Endorses Senator McSally

PHOENIX – Today, the Arizona Police Association (APA) announced their endorsement of Senator Martha McSally for United States Senate. The endorsement will be rolled out during a joint press conference with APA President Justin Harris, Senator McSally, and law enforcement officers.

• Senator McSally worked to establish National Police Week, cosponsoring a resolution designating the week of May 10 through May 16, 2020, as "National Police Week." The resolution honors the 185 law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty in 2019 and expresses “unwavering support for law enforcement officers.” It had 87 cosponsors.
• McSally crafted the CARES Act, which included $850 million in funding to assist state and local law enforcement with needs related to COVID-19, including overtime pay for officers, PPE, and supplies.
• McSally cosponsored the JUSTICE Act, a bill led by Senator Tim Scott focused on reform measures to increase accountability, transparency, and the duty to intervene.
• McSally cosponsored Senator Grassley’s Safeguarding America’s First Responders Act, which would provide federal aid funding to the families of officers who die or get disabled from contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty.
• McSally cosponsored Senator Hawley’s Supporting and Treating Officers in Crisis Act to allow grant recipients to use funds to establish suicide-prevention programs and mental health services for law enforcement officers. The bill was signed into law by President Trump in July last year.
• McSally has consistently advocated for increased funding for DOJ Byrne-JAG grants and COPS grants, which provide state and local law enforcement with funding for trainings, equipment, and databases, and create partnerships with community organizations to increase trust in police.
